Raw! Raw! Raw! Viva the raw food revolution! I wish I had discovered the raw food lifestyle years ago (can you tell?), and I bet I'm not the only one out there saying it. And now that I know about it, there's no looking back. I'm excited to share my story with you in hopes it will inspire you, even if just a little. I'll try and give you the 'nutshell' version...
I discovered the raw food lifestyle the hard way (is there really an easy way?!). I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 37. Whoa! Talk about a reality check. I'm not one to take things laying down so I immediately hit the internet and book stores. I didn't really know what I was looking for, but I was sure looking! And it was a confusing task...there's a lot of good, bad and ugly out there in terms of modern and traditional therapies.
But, in all this madness, the one constant word and theme that seemed to keep reappearing was 'nutrition'. Hmmm...
And then inspiration found me and her name is Kris Carr, "a best-selling author, filmmaker, planet lovin' vegan, animal snuggler, poo enthusiast, on a bad-ass mission to help [her] readers "green" their bodies from the inside out". Another young cancer vixen blazing the trails in search of all things good in the world of cancer. A pioneer. Helping to weed out the good, the bad and the ugly so others like me will head in the right direction from the get go.
Kris's website (www.crazysexycancer.com) and book is where I first discovered the words "raw food". I also learned how it has changed people's lives and inhibited or even reversed disease. Uh, hello! Sign me up!
"There are no "incurable" diseases. If you are willing to take responsibility for yourself and your life, you can heal yourself of anything".
-Dr. Richard Schulze
That is a powerful statement and fully loaded with hope! I began to take responsibility through many ways, the biggest one being how and what I ate. I'll be honest, making the change to this way of eating was daunting at first. I started reading books and gravitated to the ones that had simple recipes and required few if any of the required 'equipment'. I began to feel more and more comfortable and actually craved the foods I was making. I wanted to learn more and learn how to share the raw food lifestyle with others and started taking Alissa Cohen's classes.
People in my life constantly comment on how 'good' and 'healthy' I look now. Friends even pulled me aside during my months of chemotherapy and confided that I looked better during chemo than before! And you know what? I think so too!
Feel free to come and check out one of my classes or other events. I look forward to helping you learn about raw food and getting you to wherever you need to be!
